Cantina Sangro.

The Sangro winery was founded in 1971 by 110 members to transform the precious grapes of local winemakers into something big as a cooperatve. This consisted mostly of small family businesses who took care of the land and ofen managed mixed cultvaton: vitculture, olive growing, hortculture.

Today our wine embodies their great passion and expertse handed down for generatons.

The Sangro river collects the waters of the mountain basins from east of the Maiella and of the numerous small tributaries that plow the slight slope towards the sea, creatng the characteristc “ditches”.

It is one of the most important waterways on the Adriatc side of the Apennines. Its wide valley, near the mouth, has always been a fertle agricultural area, crossed in the past centuries by focks in seasonal transhumance between the mountains and the Tavoliere delle Puglia.

The Sangro Valley

The Sangro Valley has a great study value for climatologists, botanists and naturalists: the magnifcent holm oak wood in Torino di Sangro Nature Reserve extends at the mouth of the river and it is considered a sort of natural border between the temperate zone and the Mediterranean climate.

The vineyards mainly go up the lef side of the valley, facing south / south-east, and extend over the plateau above.

The high brightness and deep soils, rich in silt and limestone pebbles, favor an optmal ripening of the grapes and give wines rich in favor and aromas.

THE VINE GROWERS OF THE SANGRO CELLAR ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY GROW NATIVE VARIETIES such as: MONTEPULCIANO, TREBBIANO, PECORINO, PASSERINA, COCOCCIOLA.

The Sangro wine is born in the heart of central Abruzzo, between the Maiella Mountain, the sunny hills and the Trabocchi Coast. It is expression of a natural vocaton of the territory, nourished by traditons, experiences and passions that have been handed down for generatons.
